The Architecture God Has Spoken: Oppenheim has Vision-- but where's the record breaking height?
I was in Dubai recently checking out the buildings rising there when I checked my emails from Verticus. The Transit Miami blog had scored some major pics of a proposed building for the downtown campus of Miami Dade College. MVB had ran an earlier posting applauding Miami Dade for its visionary quest for a developer to share the property in exchange for giving the college what it needs to expand and flourish. The Calatrava posting urged the college to hold out for the tallest building in the world. MVB believes it's the last piece of prime downtown land worthy of nothing less than the biggest and best. Although Oppenheim's proposal is worthy, it isn't all that original-- it's been done in China-- and it isn't tall enough. Make it bigger, big guy. Give those mortal Miamian's something to crow about.

Pardon me, oh great God of Architecture, but haven't you ever head of "less is more"?
That's true, my insolent meaningless little pipsqueak of a mortal, but in this case, height trumps all. Besides, the economics of extremely tall skyscrapers require the application of that rule of esthetics.
I say bring the tallest building back to America where skyscrapers were invented and it belongs.
Aren't you dead?
Deader than a door nail. That doesn't mean I can't communicate.
The Internet goes all the way to Heaven?
And back. Anyway, I'm channeling, man. You don't need no stinking Internet for that.
Wow, we're impressed. I don't know of any blog that's been channeled before from the "other side." Are we the first?
For Pete's sake, how the hell do I know? Do you think that's all I got to do around here is to check up on that kinda shit for you? I'm a freaking spirit man! I've got better things to do than keep track of stupid stuff like that.
Sorry. I see you haven't mellowed out much since dying. It must be frustrating seeing America lose its status as home to the tallest building in the world.
Not as much as giving up sex and booze and not seeing my mile-high skyscraper built.
I hear ya. So what do you think of Miami's architecture?
I'm with A.G. on that. Miami has the potential to be Earth's greatest depository of envelope pushing, exciting architecture-- as long as you can find influential men and women to champion the cause. Settling for less, accepting the practical instead of mind blowing, spirit lifting buildings is not the way to go unless you're a noncompetitive loser. If that turns out to be the case, you will have only yourselves to blame for not seizing the day from those upstart Muslims and godless Commies.
And don't forget what I said in 1893, "Make no small plans. They have no magic to stir humanity's blood."
Right, like I'm supposed to believe you're Daniel Burnham, the famous architect who's got nothing better to do since he died before the first world war than channeling my blog. Get a life.
Hey, I wish I could but reincarnation doesn't work here! You only get one shot at it. So listen up, punk, don't settle for anything but the biggest and best for Miami.
